I’m a recovering addict
And I’ve been sober for the last 560 days.
My life isn't controlled by it anymore.
I get to choose how I spend my time.
I can finally be present with my friends and family.
I sleep better. I’m more productive at work.
And I’ve completely eliminated the urge to have it on me at all times.
Yes, I’m finally free from the addiction to my phone.
It wasn’t easy but here are a few life hacks that really helped me along the way:
📱 Disabling all notifications on my phone
This one was scary at first but really life changing. I was worried people might not be able to get a hold of me or I’d miss important messages. Turns out that if people have an emergency they can just call me. It’s been 560 days and haven’t had any issues yet.
📱 Putting my phone on airplane mode from 8pm to 9am.
No distractions before bed makes it much easier to fall asleep and a distraction free morning makes me so much more productive. Do Not Disturb is also a less extreme way of doing this.
📱 Deleting Facebook and Instagram apps (and only using them on browsers).
These two were my nemesis and were also really bad for my mental health. I’ve actually stopped using them now altogether.
📱 Moving all my most distracting apps to the 4th page on my phone
This makes it harder for me to access them and also allows me to catch myself when I’m on autopilot mode and mindlessly going towards the apps.
It’s simply amazing what is available to us on our phones and they have definitely made our lives so much easier.
But if we let them, they can also fully consume us and do more harm than good.
What life hacks do you use to reduce your phone usage??
