Why You Should Stop Telling People You’re Busy

If I had a dollar for everytime someone told me they were “Really busy” at work I’d be a very rich man 💰

In a lot of corporate environments, being busy is glorified and worn as a badge of honor 🎖️

The busier you are, the harder you are working and the more important your work feels.

It becomes a competition of who is the busiest 🐝

Sometimes it’s also used when you have nothing to say or don’t feel like making conversation.

‘Hey, how are you?” “Good, I’m just really busy” “Yeah, me too crazy busy week”

And while it might feel good to say it, what it actually does is make you come across as self important and unavailable 👑

It’s the equivalent of saying:

‘Hey, how are you?” “Good, I’m just really important” “Yeah, me too crazy important week”

Essentially it becomes a competition of who is the most important and this can easily create a very toxic culture of people trying to out-busy each other...

….a great way to create more anxiety and burnout in the workplace 😞

So next time someone asks “How are you?” instead of telling them you are busy, try out one of these different options:

-“I’m having a real productive day today”

-”I’ve got a lot on, but excited about the outcome”

-”I’m working on this XYZ project”

If you stop telling people how busy you are, you might even start feeling less busy and have more time to do things 🤔

Also if you are genuinely feeling overwhelmed and stressed, open up about it. It’s one of the best ways of overcoming it and will always feel better than just saying “I’m busy”.

So how are you today??
