I’ve been a hypocrite
And it’s about time I admitted it.
When I first heard Jim Rohn’s quote:
“You are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with”.
I couldn’t agree more with it.
And over the years I kept it in mind.
I did my best to surround myself with people who gave me energy.
People who lifted me up and elevated my thinking.
This served me well and has led to many good things in my life.
But there was one thing about this quote that I completely forgot to consider.
And that’s that I was also part of the sum of 5 for someone else.
I’d been a hypocrite because I was relying on others to improve my life, while never considering how I was improving theirs.
So yes, the people we surround ourselves with play a huge role in the quality of our lives.
But it also starts with us.
Are we being a positive influence in other people’s lives? Are we being the change we want to see in other people?
Because if not, then why would anyone want us to be part of their sum.
What about you? Would you accept yourself as part of the 5 people you spend the most time with?
