What did you fail at today?

Here’s a picture of my friend Ewoud doing the perfect backflip off a cliff…

… and me trying to do the same.

It was a very poor attempt and my landing was terrible.

But it was an attempt nonetheless.

Sara Blakely (Founder of Spanx), grew up with a Father asking her:

“What did you fail at today?”

If she wasn’t failing, she wasn’t trying new things.

So having failures to report was a good thing for her.

They were an indicator of how well she was doing.

They were not only normalized in her household, they were encouraged.

I think we could all benefit from having this approach in life.

Embracing failures instead of fearing them.

Actively seeking out more failures.

Thomas Watson once said: “If you want to increase your success rate, double your failure rate.”

What about you? When has failing led to positive outcomes in your life? And what would you like to fail more at?
