How to deal with stress melt down?
Last week I had a complete meltdown.
It started off with me feeling I wasn’t moving forward.
Which led to a few off days in a row.
To make up for this, I chose to work harder and push myself more.
But then in the space of about one day:
-I failed 7 practice motorcycle theory tests.
-The horse I was riding refused to do anything I asked him to.
-I received a couple harsh rejection messages on Linkedin.
-And had one of my worst days this year at the gym.
Eventually I just broke down.
It felt like I was in a hole… and the more I tried to dig myself out, the deeper it got.
I knew I should slow down but it felt completely counterintuitive.
If I slowed down, then surely I would just get even more behind?
Well turns out, that couldn’t have been further from the truth.
I decided to take a break and after a couple of days off already,
I started to see all my problems differently.
By taking a step back and getting a helicopter view of my situation,
I was able to elevate my thinking and start seeing solutions and opportunities.
My failures became learning, my rejections became redirections.
And within a few days of being back, I’d made more progress than in the weeks before my meltdown.
This is the true power of slowing down to speed up.
Einstein once said: “You can’t solve a problem at the same level of thinking that created it”.
Slowing down allows us to take a step back, elevate our thinking and solve problems faster.
So next time you want things to go faster, maybe you should try to slow down 😉
What about you? Have you ever experienced the benefits of slowing down?
