Who’s your hero?
Maybe you’re a comics fan and it’s a superhero… maybe it’s a public figure or someone from your family… or maybe you have no hero...
In his 2014 Oscar speech Matthew MacConaughey answered this question by saying his hero was himself 10 years away from now.
It sounded like a really cool answer, but it took me a while to realise how powerful it actually was...
By being your own hero, you’re way less likely to spend so much time criticising and judging yourself...
By being your own hero, you're way less likely to have that little voice in your head telling you you aren’t good enough… telling you that you’re a failure...
By being your own hero, you are strengthening your self-worth...
And just like a little kid who wears a batman cape… if you know the qualities, values and courage of your hero (YOU), you can already start wearing them in the present moment.
You never have to worry about not becoming your hero because your hero will always be YOU 10 years from now.
So you will always look up to a version of YOU...
You will always admire a version of YOU... idolize, praise and appreciate a version of YOU...
Be proud of a version of YOU…
So what better way to live your life, than by becoming your own hero?
